Interview with Google

I was contacted by Google recently about the possibility of working there. Let me first say that this really took me by surprise. I should be contacting them, but no they contacted me. So that definitely was a cool experience. Today I had a small phone interview with them. I'm not sure that I did very well, but it was an interesting experience nonetheless. It made me think more than I had in a while and that was a good thing. As it started kicking in and after the interview let's just say that I had many interesting thoughts invading my head. I'm hoping at some point to see some of these come through.

Web Development

I am finally trying to join the blogging community and talk more of things that interest me and also things that I am doing, whether it's work or fun.

I have spent my entire career in software development and up to now that has been exclusively in the WinForms framework of .Net. As I see the direction of development moving from content and training topics etc., I see that Web Development is the ways things are heading. This is a hard thing for me to do, but I think I need to learn web development. Up to this point I had always viewed web development as a "red-headed stepchild." I have now learned of some of the technologies and seen some of the direction and it's pretty interesting now.

Currently this is going to be a learning process that I have to do on my own free time because the situation at where I work is that everything is done as a WinForms application. And before you ask, no we're not doing WPF, although I'm trying to get us heading that direction. But back to the point, I have been going through Murach's HTML, XHTML, and CSS book. It is really interesting so far. Hoping to continue moving forward, but needing to start at the basics and move forward.

If anybody has any good suggestions as I venture down this path let me know.
